Belle Isle - Monona
With tree-lined streets, over 120 acres of parks, and a lake, Monona area residents have plenty of community outdoor activities to enjoy throughout the year. There are also numerous popular shopping and dining hotspots to choose from. Nearby Winnequah- Dream Park is a 45 acre swath of green space surrounding a meandering lagoon that runs through the heart of the city. The park is known for it's huge 4th of July Festival, outdoor movie nights, and Bands in the Park. In winter, the Winnequah- Dream Park lagoon offers the perfect atmosphere for ice skating, and skaters can warm up in the shelter house with a steaming cup of hot chocolate. In January, the Candlelit Snowshoe Hike & Bonfire offers another opportunity for residents to enjoy the beauty of winter in Wisconsin. Don't forget about ice fishing and cross-country skiing! Summer fun can be had for all at many Lake Monona public beaches or at the Monona pool! There is a skate park by the pool too. The Community Center and newly renovated Library offer various classes and enrichment. The Monona Lake Bike Loop is another fun activity and a great way to take in all the beautiful views across Lake Monona! Shake the Lake fireworks is a huge summer celebration. Last but not least, Monona is a great boating and water recreation lake known for it's often calmer waters than it's larger sister Lake Mendota. Belle Isle is a neighborhood in Monona consisting of islands and deep lagoons that open to Squaw Bay on the south eastern end of Lake Monona. Residents enjoy lake access, calm waters, year round docks, and plenty of wildlife watching. Just southeast of Squaw Bay is the Yahara channel that leads to Lake Waubesa. The area is perfect for paddling, boating, sunset cruises, fishing, and living vacation life daily.
